What's Your HR IQ?
Answer

My just-hired employee is going out on jury duty. Do I still need to pay him?

If an exempt employee works any part of a week and is called to jury duty, both state and federal law mandate that the employee must be paid her/his salary for the entire week. Non-exempt employees however are not subject to state or federal compensation requirements requiring payment for time off due to jury duty. Your company policy would determine whether non-exempt employees would receive paid time off for jury duty service.
